Research retreat „Global Co-Learning for IntCDC”

24. August 2026 / Sowi V

A week of intensive exchange brought together researchers from the University of Stuttgart and Bauhaus Earth to plan the next steps of IntCDC’s Global Co-Learning research agenda

In the new research phase of IntCDC, the project “Global Co learning for IntCDC” incorporates the perspectives of the Global South on the future of housing and construction. In the first period of IntCDC, the perspectives of the Global South have not been considered as part of the research programme. Against this background, the project establishes a foundation for situated and context-sensitive co-learning within IntCDC through a decolonial lens, aiming to foster just and regenerative built environments that restore socio-ecological systems. Through South-South-North trialogues with partners from Tanzania and South Africa, it studies the socio-material dimensions of architecture, engineering, and construction processes and IntCDC methods in regional contexts, exploring their relevance for context-sensitive and Southern urbanism strategies.

In August, Dr Marie Graef and Dr Shaharin Elham Annisa, researchers from the University of Stuttgart, met with Dr Christian Jonathan from Bauhaus Earth for an intensive week of joint discussion and planning of the research project.
