Controlling for the sustainability of the compact city. A co-agency perspective on the tensions of densification
The paper critically examines the sustainability of the compact city and densification, analyzing actors and tensions related to social equity using the concept of ‘co-agency’. It reflects on the synergy of densification with big data technology, highlighting discourses of control optimism.
Amelie Schreck (presenter):
Safety within cyber-physical construction sites
Semi-automated cranes aim to enhance precision and safety of construction work. Our paper examines various assumptions about safety from the perspective of technology developers and crane operators, shedding light on the "new" control constellations of cyber-physical construction sites.
Dr. Yana Boeva (presenter):
Situational expertise in the digital knowledge-based work in architecture and engineering
Application and use of digital technologies underpin boundary work and expertise in knowledge-based work in architecture and engineering. This paper shows that multiple forms of expertise co-exist with or emerge from digital technologies depending on different conditions.
apl. Prof. Dr. Kathrin Braun (presenter):
(What) change by indicators? KPIs for the compact city
The paper examines recent efforts to develop decision-support systems based on key performance indicators for assessing, monitoring and anticipating the implications of urban densification measures.
Dr. Yana Boeva (co-convenor):
Digital ghost work: Human presences in AI transformations
This panel engages in discussions of the sociotechnical transformations that AI brings to working life, creating new digital paradigms and epistemic cultures of “ghost work.” We aim to critically examine the obscured labor and the profound implications of advancements in AI.
Prof. Dr. Cordula Kropp (co-convenor):
Architecture in the new climatic regime: Transforming material practices
What kind of new material practices and experimental tactics transform the “laboratory” of the architect in the new climatic regime? What will be role of models, inscription devices and innovations?
