Research in Sociology of Technology and Environment at the University of Stuttgart encompasses studies on sustainable development, risks, and sociotechnical transformation processes. A special focus is on infrastructure projects and the question, which challenges they pose, which options they offer, and which social, technical and cultural standards they are expected to meet (e.g., transformation of energy systems, transport systems, digitisation and automation). The aim is to better understand the chances, requirements and preconditions for an environmentally and socially just transformation of infrastructures (that maximises resilience and minimises risks) and its interrelations with societal, political, and especially participatory transformation processes.
